Everybody says they have genius kids, I know...

But I actually do--honest. Miles goes to bed around 8 every night, and usually he either falls asleep reading, or else I have to go in and enforce lights out. So the elementary school is getting new science textbooks, and Raelynn joyfully came home with her old one, proudly displaying the "obsolete" stamp. And this is where I found Miles at 10:30 when I went to check on him before I went to bed. Chapter 3 of Realynn's 3rd grade science textbook. He shut it to go to sleep, but insisted he keep it under his pillow.

But it's not just science; he's heavily in love with poetry. He has memorized most of the three Shel Silverstein books we have, and spent at least one hour at the father and son campout reading poems to a tent full of boys. He just hums with energy and eagerness.

Most of the time I find myself shaking my head and laughing about Miles. The boy has an excess of life force. After cautious and careful Raelynn, Miles is plain shocking to me. I'm stealing this metaphor, but talking to Miles is a little like drinking from a firehose. I just gotta love him.

Miles is definitely fantastic. And smart. And full of energy. My favorite Miles moment remains his announcement in Oct. 2006 that he was a Certificate of Rain (and, of course, the lesson on rain that followed).

MIles is the best. My favorite MIles moment was when he had been to the IMAX ocean movie and gave us all a long and detailed lesson on sharks, whales and sea creatures in "all of the blue" (said with eyes WIDE open and lips stretched to wrap around that last word). You're right, he is crazy scary smart. Good luck keeping up with him.

COURTNEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am so happy that you wrote! I have wondered where you are and how you are doing. I had all but forgot the Carrie connection. I vaguely remember you and a wedding dress...

With Miles, I am not surprised. With a gifted Mom, like his, he has no choice but to be brilliant in the sciences and the arts.

As I write this a hundred memories are going through my head..."Whirled Peas" (on your roof), you making up words to our Humanities music, filling a room with newspaper, Kim, and a thousand others.

Okay, this is way too long for a blog comment, but it is not everyday, that a Courtney that was lost is found!
